Dr. Ehsan Bayat - Humanitarian & Entrepreneur
Dr. Ehsan Bayat has earned considerable recognition as an entrepreneur and benefactor of the country. His accolades include the National Human Rights Award from the Afghanistan Human Rights and Democracy Association; the first Businessman of the Year Award from the Afghan-American Chamber of Commerce; and selection as Humanitarian of the Year from Zeba Magazine. The Canada Afghanistan Business Council honored him with its Corporate Social Responsibility Award, and Afghan Americans in California named him Man of the Year. Additionally, Friends of the South Asian American Communities acknowledged Dr. Ehsan Bayat with the Mahatma Gandhi Humanitarian Award.
Mr. Bayat’s reputation as both a businessman and generous public servant stems from his efforts to aid the people of his homeland. Holding dual Afghan and U.S. citizenship, Dr. Ehsan Bayat lived in the United States for a number of years, returning to Afghanistan following the fall of the Taliban. He established the country’s first mobile telephone firm, Afghan Wireless Communication Company, which launched its wireless services in 2002, and the nation’s largest radio and television station, Ariana Television Network, in 2005. He also established the Bayat Foundation, which has built schools, universities, clinics, and hospitals, as well as provided food, clothing, ambulances, firefighting equipment, and other assistance to at-risk Afghans nationwide. Dr. Ehsan Bayat serves as Chairman of all three entities.
The Kabul native’s commitment to helping the Afghan people has resulted in maternity hospitals treating more than 300,000 women and newborns, and in excess of 3 million individuals being connected through cellular and Internet service. Additionally, more than 25 million citizens receive news reports and educational programming in three languages. Dr. Ehsan Bayat received his education in Afghanistan and the United States. In addition to a B.S. in Engineering Technology from the New Jersey Institute of Technology, Mr. Bayat holds an honorary Ph.D. from the American University of Afghanistan.
